Yuck It would seem the time has come to shake things up a bit. At The Plot Hole we’re thinking a little more expansively. We, Miss Nuance, Zombie Boy, and Midnight Butterfly are all here essentially for two reasons: We love to write. We love movies. So we created a site where we could indulge both of these passions – where we could write about movies. We’re not here to judge – per se. We’re not looking to find fault. Our aim at The Plot Hole is to contribute to an art form, specifically cinema, film, movies. We will discuss film here as the preeminent art form of its day. None of us at the time of this writing are film-makers but we are all artists and therefore have some idea of the will, courage and sacrifice that goes into creating a work of art. Perhaps more importantly we’re all big-time movie fans who have seen a ton of them and who are endlessly excited and enchanted by movies and love to talk about them. We will approach movies with respect and passion – but not reverence. We want to generate and delineate aesthetics. We will respect the hard work, initiative, talent and gumption that goes into making even a bad movie. We will attempt to take the art form seriously and not ourselves (“Hoo-boy, good luck with that!”). We presume that the best way to explore art is through creating art: so we’re going to be writing like a house on fire. We’re going to serve up great writing, insightful writing, and entertaining writing. We will branch out into other subjects on our individual pages. We will exchange ideas. We’ll argue. We’ll search for meaning and purpose. We’ll have a blast. This website is for those people who come out of a good movie in a fever, who can’t stop thinking or talking about it, who have to dig deeper and deeper to get at the core of their experience, who want to know. This website is for people who see art as a muse for whom you create art; for people for whom film provides a fertile soil from which new art emerges. This website is for those people who come out of a bad movie in a rage, who tear it apart, piece by piece, until they finally come down to the withered heart of why they hate this thing that just stole two hours of their life and twenty dollars from their wallet. This website is for those people who love the movie everybody else hates and they stick to their guns because they know they’re right and if only everybody would listen to them the world would be a much better place because twenty years from now this movie will be recognized as a classic. This website is for people who hate the movie that everyone else loves and recognize this phenomenon as yet another sign that the Apocalypse is upon us. This website is for people who go to film festivals for the express purpose of finding some hidden treasure that they can then tell everyone about. This website is for people who go to movies by themselves on a regular basis as a choice. This website is for people who don’t mind a bad movie nearly as much as they mind a cynical one. This website is for people for whom seeing a great movie – any great movie – is an aphrodisiac. You know who you are. This website is for you. Welcome to The Plot Hole.
